In this case, we provide additional services to our customer to help them realise their manufacturing goals. We make a bunch of parts for this customer; in fact, we make parts for 30-something distinct products of theirs. When the machines are running, we cut, roll, fold, and kit parts with quality at the forefront, delivering them fabrication-ready kits for each of their products.
When the machines are sleeping, we manage the 3D and 2D CAD databases for their product offering, manage engineering change orders across their product line, maintain bills of material across their offerings, liaise with subcontractors that aid in the manufacturing process, help them develop bespoke offerings, and do it all in the spirit of lean manufacturing.
A side effect of this is that this customer relationship gives us access to supply chain resources that would normally be off limits to small businesses like ours, meaning that sharp pricing and the ability to handle unique material requests becomes a benefit that all of our customers subsequently enjoy.
