A healthy portion of Wai Innovation’s staff has strong backgrounds in design and engineering. Spanning from pure mechanical engineering through to industrial design with stops along the way at product design, our in-house talent is capable of taking ideas from cocktail napkin to mass production. Whatever your design language is, we speak it, and we’re comfortable working with other engineers, founders, manufacturers, and all flavours of designers. We love solving complex interdisciplinary problems, whether it be tight electromechanical packaging, design to achieve optomechanical tolerances, or digging into the fundamentals of a vehicle or aircraft, we have probably done it before.
But wait, aren’t you just profile cutters? Well sure, that’s our bread and butter. What you get when you engage us for design is the ability to rapidly validate your ideas in a more holistic manner than you can with just a Fusion license and a 3D printer. Imagine turns of sheet metal prototypes in hours instead of weeks and you’re on the right track.
We use SolidWorks and Fusion 360 as design tools, horses for courses. Our modeling techniques range from the mundane parametric approaches all the way to the most complex surfacing techniques. With an eye to design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), we hold at our core that it must be makeable to be good. We’re able to digitally validate with a variety of tools, and of course we’ve got physical validation at our fingertips with all our machines and regional partners.
